Third baseman Tori Koerselman went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and shortstop Sarah Allison blasted a pair of home runs to lead Sam Houston to an 11-2 run rule victory over Stephen F. Austin Sunday.
The win ended the Bearkats’ performance at the North Texas Shootout softball tournament on a high note. After dropping their opening games Friday to SFA and Texas State, the Bearkats bounce back to tally 33 runs in their final three games for wins over the Jacks, Abilene Christian and Prairie View.
A six-hit, six-run first inning started things right for the Kats Sunday. Tayler Gray led off with a single. She scored on a double by Koerselman. Hillary Adams followed with a run-scoring double.
Tiffany Castillo continued the parade with a two-run single and Allison brought in two more tallies with her first home run of the day.
Allison added a solo homer in the third. The Kats added four more runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Amy Pelton and a run-scoring single by Jessica Slater and a two-run hit by Koerselman.
Sam Houston totaled 14 hits in the game as SHSU upped its 2014 season mark to 4-7.
Haley Baros (1-2) was the winning pitcher. Tayler Atkinson pitched an inning in relief.
