HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Houston scored three runs in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on to ruin Sam Houston State's 2013 home opener 6-3 Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium.
Four errors led to the Bearkats demise. Houston had two errors in the game.
Hayden Simerly had a solo home run for the Bearkats in the second inning to give them a 2-1 lead. Ryan Farney had three hits, scored a run, and stole a base for SHSU.
Houston tied it in the fourth, but Sam Houston answered to go back up 3-2.
However, the Cougars pushed a run across in the seventh to tie it and three in the ninth to pick up the win.
Kyle Kirk and Kyle Survance each had two hits for Houston.
SHSU will host Louisiana-Lafayette in a three-game series starting Friday.
