Ashley Alonzo had a shot blocked in the 80th minute and Ashley Fluty’s shot was saved in the 84th as the Kats attempted to equalize and force overtime.

Both teams totaled 15 shots. McDaniel and Alonzo led Sam Houston with three shots each. SHSU goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton was credited with six saves.

Sam Houston, now 3-7 for the season, opens Southland Conference action next weekend in Huntsville. The Bearkats face Nicholls at 7 p.m. Friday and Central Arkansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
