SHSU softball falls to Northern Illinois

Waco - Northern Illinois defeated Sam Houston 5-3 in the Bearkats' final game of the Baylor Bear Softball Invitational Sunday afternoon at Getterman Field.

Ashley Isbell accounted for Sam Houston's first two runs with a home run to center field in the second inning. Shelbi Tucker's double in the sixth inning brought in the Kats' third tally.

Meme Quinn was the losing pitcher for the Bearkats, starting and giving up seven hits in six innings. Shelby Lancaster threw the final inning in relief.

Catcher Erika Oswald accounted for three of Northern Illinois' five runs with a two run double in the second and an RBI single in the fifth.

Sam Houston completed the tournament with a pair of victories in its five games including a 2-0 shutout of Baylor Saturday.

Three Bearkats were named to the all-tournament team - Tori Benavidez, Alyssa Coggins and Hillary Adams.
Sam Houston opens its home schedule Wednesday at 5 p.m. when the Kats play host to Texas A&M.
