HUNTSVILLE, TX -- Sam Houston State's Shelby Lancaster has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The sophomore right-hander earned two of Sam Houston's four wins on the week with the Bearkats posting four consecutive shutouts.
The Tomball product pitched a no-hitter against Southeastern Louisiana after tossing four shutout innings in midweek action against Prairie View A&M.
In 11.0 innings of work, Lancaster walked only two of the 40 batters she faced and only gave up three hits. Opponents hit only .079 against her on the week while Lancaster went 2-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA.
For the season, Lancaster owns the Bearkats' top earned run average (2.80) and also leads the team with a 9-6 won-loss record. She has limited opponents to a .269 batting average and struck out 22 hitters.
The Sam Houston State softball team stands 22-17 for the year and has won 21 of its last 25 games. The Bearkats are tied for second place in the Southland Conference with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Both own 10-4 league records.
The Bearkats and the Islanders meet Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a Southland Conference doubleheader.
