Sam Houston Softball Heads To Texas State

The Sam Houston softball team faces more top caliber competition this weekend as the Bearkats compete in the Texas State Shootout in San Marcos.

The Bearkats open play Friday at 9:30 a.m. against Texas-Arlington. Immediately following at 11:30 a.m. the Kats take on Baylor.
Saturday Sam Houston faces host Texas State at 3:30 p.m. then meets Texas Tech at 5:30 p.m.

Friday and Saturday’s play will determine the brackets for Sunday’s final games. Bracket play contests are scheduled for 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Bearkats bring a 5-6 record into the contest including wins over Illinois State, Baylor, Jacksonville State and Southern Mississippi.
Outfielder Tori Benavidez (.366) and shortstop Cecilia Castillo (.346) are the team’s top hitters.

Shelby Lancaster has earned three of Sam Houston’s five victories in the pitching circle. In 34 and two-thirds innings she has struck out 13 battles. Lancaster has three complete games and two shutouts to her credit.
