LAFAYETTE, Louisiana -- Louisiana-Lafayette pitchers Christina Hamilton and Jordan Wallace limited Sam Houston to five hits in 14 innings as the Ragin’ Cajuns swept a non-conference softball doubleheader by scores of 6-0 and 4-2 Wednesday.
The two victories on their home field in Lafayette upped the Ragin’ Cajuns’ record to 19-6 while Sam Houston drops to 12-15.
Catcher Tiffany Castillo, designated player Hillary Adams and first baseman Sarah Allison provided Sam Houston’s hits in the opening game. Castillo posted a double while Adams and Allison both had singles.
First baseman Kelsey Vincent picked up two RBIs in the opener as Louisiana-Lafayette scored their six runs on 11 hits and one Bearkat error.
Shelby Lancaster (2-5) was the losing pitcher for Sam Houston.
Third baseman Tori Koerselman produced the SHSU women’s first hit and first run in the nightcap with a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning.
The Kats’ 1-0 lead didn’t last long as Vincent hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and center fielder Haley Hayden had an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Sam Houston rallied for one run in the top of the seventh as pinch runner Dani Allen reached third base on two wild pitches then scored on a passed ball.
The Bearkats return to Southland Conference action this weekend as they host Nicholls in a three-game series. The action starts Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Softball Complex.
