Sam Houston State Blanks New Orleans

HUNTSVILLE, Texas Led by Deveney Wells-Gibson who knocked down 13 kills in 32 attempts, Sam Houston State routed New Orleans in an hour and eight minutes to up their season volleyball mark to 11-7.

Haley Neisler totaled nine kills and Carling Urben added eight as Sam Houston won 25-11 25-10 25-15. The Bearkats now stand 8-1 in Southland Conference play.

New Orleans dropped to 3-20 for the year and 0-10 in league action.
Sam Houston trailed only twice, both in the third set. The Privateers held early 2-1 and 7-4 leads before the Kats took control and won 21 of the next 29 points.

The Bearkats jumped out to quick 10-3 and 6-1 leads in the first and second set, respectively.

Sam Houston’s front line blocked nine New Orleans attack attempts. Neisler assisted on six of those blocks.

The Bearkats had an outstanding night at the service line as well, totaling 10 aces. Tayler Gray, who assisted on 37 of the Kats’ 41 kills, accounted for three aces.

Brenna Homer led the Bearkats with 17 digs.

Sam Houston returns to Johnson Coliseum to play host to Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 2 p.m.
