By  |

In the final poll before the March 26 announcement of the eight teams going to the 2014 NCAA championships in Cleveland, Sam Houston stands No. 7 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll.

The NTCA rankings announced March 19 have Arkansas State at No. 1 followed by Nebaska, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Vanderbilt is No. 6 with Sam Houston, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Stephen F. Austin and Saint Francis (Penn) rounding out the top 10.

“We’re excited about where we stand a week before the announcement of the field for the NCAA championships in Cleveland in April,” SHSU head coach Brad Hagen said. “The girls have worked hard all season and we’ve picked up some big wins during the spring. Now is just a matter of wait and see.”

The NCAA Selection Show for women’s bowling can be seen Wednesday, March 26 at 3 p.m. here.

Sam Houston’s 90 dual match victories this season rank behind only No. 1 Arkansas State’s 91 wins in NCAA women’s bowling this year.

The Bearkats own a 47-38 record against the current top 20 that includes 13 wins over squads in the top five. The SHSU women have won four times over No. 1 Arkansas State.

Sam Houston has earned an NCAA Elite Eight bowling berth two of the three years since the program was added as the Bearkats’ 17th intercollegiate sports team.
