By  |

San Diego is Sam Houston's second round opponent in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

The Bearkats will play host to the Toreros Saturday at 6 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

Sam Houston defeated Alabama State 71-49 in Huntsville while San Diego knocked off Portland State 87-65 Tuesday in C.I.T. opening round action.

San Diego brings a 17-16 record to Huntsville. The Toreros finished fifth in the West Coast Conference. The highlight of their season was a 69-66 victory over WCC champion Gonzaga.

Like Sam Houston, San Diego is making its first appearance in the C.I.T. postseason tournament. The Toreros made NCAA tournament appearances in 1984, 1987, 2003 and 2008.

Both Southland participants in the C.I.T. are still alive as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Northern Colorado 82-71 on the road Wednesday.

The Kats' win over Alabama State Tuesday marked Sam Houston first NCAA post-season tournament basketball victory in 27 years at the Division I level.

The Bearkats, who finished third in the Southland and reached the league's postseason tournament finals, stand 24-10 this year.
Tickets will be available at the SHSU Athletic Ticket office at (936) 294-1729 or by visiting the ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House at Bowers Stadium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for Sam Houston students.
