COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M Soccer team signed six student-athletes to national letters of intent, head coach G Guerrieri announced Wednesday.
Ana Cruz (San Diego, Calif.), Ashlynn Harryman (Dana Point, California), Elizabeth Keester (Tulsa, Okla.), Taylor Saucier (Omaha, Neb.), Sarah Shaw (Keller, Texas) and Grace Wright (College Station, Texas) will join the Aggie soccer team for the 2013 season.
“This is a signing class that we are very proud of,” Guerrieri said. “It is a group that strengthens our attack, midfield, back line, and our goalkeeping positions. These six student-athletes are all accomplished players who bring some very special attributes to our Aggie soccer team.”
The class will be able to contribute all over the pitch. Keester is one of the nation’s premier forwards, Cruz and Shaw are prolific midfielders and Wright is a defender with a wealth of international experience. Saucier provides A&M with a goalkeeper of the future and Harryman is a versatile player with the ability to fill needs at numerous positions.
“We are excited for what this class offers,” Guerrieri said. “They are all intelligent students. Each of these players competes in the prestigious Elite National Clubs League (ECNL), a few have competed internationally, and all of them are very important members of their current teams.”
Coach Guerrieri once again blended players from Texas along with players from America’s heartland and the west coast to develop this year’s recruiting class.
Cruz and Harryman will arrive from California to join five current Aggies from the Golden State, including rising sophomores Allie Bailey, Katie Perry, Leigh Edwards and Renee McDermott.
Saucier was a teammate of current A&M defender Jackie Tondl on Omaha-power Marian High School. Keester is also trekking south from the heartland where she was named the Gatorade/ESPN Oklahoma Player of the Year.
The Aggies once again plucked some of the best recruits out of Texas, landing Shaw from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as local product Wright. The duo will join five Texans on the 2013 roster.
“We graduated a big senior class,” Guerrieri said, “but we will return a great many of the 2012 starters for our 2013 Aggie soccer roster. So, adding these six new players to our team is wonderful. They will improve an already strong roster and can help us compete for championships during their careers.”
