Soccer Kicks Off Spring With Match vs. Houston

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS -- The reigning SEC Western Division Champion Texas A&M Soccer team kicks off the spring season on Saturday (Feb. 9) with a 7 pm match against the Houston Cougars at Ellis Field.

The game against the Cougars is the first of five exhibition matches for the Aggies, who ended the 2012 season with an 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a No. 14 national ranking and a 19-5-1 record.

The Aggies have a wealth of talent on offense as their top six scorers from 2012 return and five will take the pitch on Saturday, including Kelley Monogue (10 g), Shea Groom (5 g/7 a), Meghan Streight (3 g/6 a), Jayne Eadie (2 g/8 a) and Allie Bailey (4 g/2 a). All-SEC goalkeeper Jordan Day also returns after a sophomore campaign in which she set a league record with 14 shutouts and posted a 0.63 goals-against average and 79 saves. Rachel Lenz, Jackie Tondl and Karlie Mueller also return to an A&M defense that held opponents to 16 goals in 25 games.

The Cougars are coming off a 7-9-3 season, finishing eighth in Conference USA with a 3-4-3 mark. Houston returns its leading scorer from 2012 as Jasmine Martinez notched eight goals and two assists as a junior. The Cougars also feature the 2012 All-Conference USA Second Team netminder Cami Koski who posted a 1.34 goals-against average and 89 saves as a junior.
