COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M and Brazos Valley Recycling released new recycling numbers for the 2013 football season on Tuesday.
Working together, 45 tons of trash at Kyle Field were diverted from landfills this year. On average, trash at each game was recycled at a rate of 41 percent—up from 24 percent in 2012.
“Texas A&M Athletics is proud to partner with Brazos Valley Recycling,” Associate Athletic Director for Facilities Kevin Hurley said. “We continue to work towards no waste going to landfills and BVR is a big part of that undertaking. BVR has also partnered with contractors building athletic facilities to recycle during the construction process.”
Brazos Valley Recycling signed on in 2012 to head recycling efforts at home football games. The partnership has seen recycling rise to 43 percent of all trash in only two years. Before the agreement, recycling at Kyle Field was close to zero.
“We are thrilled with the recycling results at Kyle Field this year,” Brazos Valley Recycling owner Charlie Mancuso said. “We are learning more each year to help improve the recycling program and are so excited to see what next year has in store.”
Texas A&M is committed to sustainability and maintaining a clean environment. The department continues to seek new ways to reduce waste at Kyle Field.
“We look forward to the day when we can recycle 100 percent of all waste generated through the long term relationship with BVR,” said Hurley.
The agreement with Brazos Valley Recycling has at least two additional seasons remaining.
Brazos Valley Recycling is proud to be the recycling provider of Kyle Field and Texas A&M Athletics for many years to come.
