Texas A&M Freshman Richardson Has Successful Surgery

COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Michael Richardson, a 6-2, 230-pound Texas A&M true freshman backup linebacker from DeSoto High School, sustained a cervical spine injury in the second half of the Aggies’ 47-28 victory over Sam Houston State on Saturday (Nov. 17) and underwent surgery on Sunday (Nov. 18) and has been released from St. Joseph’s Hospital today (Monday, Nov. 19).

“We are so thankful that Michael came through surgery in good shape and our focus, thoughts and prayers are just on his healing and recovery,” Texas A&M head football coach Kevin Sumlin said.

Richardson played the majority of the second half and recorded five tackles. After the game, he complained of pain in his neck and the athletic trainers and medical staff took the necessary precautions and an x-ray determined a significant injury that would require surgery. He was transported to the hospital late Saturday.
