COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 12 Texas A&M men’s tennis team hosts former SWC foe Rice Tuesday evening at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Aggies (15-5, 5-1) return to action three days after defeating TCU 5-2 in College Station, their fourth straight win. The maroon and white clinched the doubles point with a win by Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant on court one over the 15th ranked duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein. In addition to the doubles point A&M collected wins from No. 23 Shane Vinsant, No. 50 Jeremy Efferding, Junior Ore and Jordan Szabo.
Rice (7-9, 1-0) outlasted Tulane Sunday afternoon to claim the 56th Rice Invitational title with their fifth consecutive win on the season. The Owls had to amass four singles wins to defeat the Green Wave after dropping the doubles point. Tommy Bennett, Adam Gustafsson, David Warren and Gustavo Gonzalez all registered wins with Bennett clinching the match on court one for the Owls.
The two teams faced off last season at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in Houston with A&M defeating Rice 6-1. Efferding, Ore, Vinsant and Szabo all claimed singles wins last season in addition to the doubles win for the Aggies in a winning effort.
Following Tuesday’s match the Aggies will host the SEC-leading Georgia Bulldogs Friday evening for USTA College Match Day. A collection of activities are planned for Friday evening as the Aggies look to set a new attendance record at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
