Texas A&M Men’s Tennis Picked to Finish Third in Loaded SEC

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 12 Texas A&M men’s tennis team was picked third in the Southeastern Conference men’s tennis coaches’ preseason poll, announced Thursday by the conference office. The Aggies open the spring season Sunday with dual matches against Louisiana Lafayette at noon and Texas-Pan American at 4:00 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

“We are in a really tough league top to bottom with 10 teams in the ITA top 25, and to be considered one of the favorites by the other coaches is a nice recognition for this team,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “Now we have to follow up the lofty prediction by going out and playing well. That all starts this weekend with two quality opponents in Louisiana Lafayette and Texas-Pan American.”

The Georgia Bulldogs were picked as the overall conference champion followed by Tennessee, Texas A&M, Kentucky and Florida to round out the top five. Completing the preseason poll were Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Arkansas. The preseason poll is voted on by the men’s tennis head coach at each institution.
