COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Two accomplished international golfers signed national letters of intent to play golf at Texas A&M, Aggie Head Coach Trelle McCombs announced today. Bianca Fabrizio (Italy) and Thanya Pattamakijsakul (Thailand) will join the Aggies on the links in the fall of 2013.
“Both of these young ladies are exceptional in the classroom and academics are extremely important to them.” McCombs said. “In addition to their commitment to academics both are very accomplished on the international golf scene and will do a great job for the Aggies on and off the course. Bianca will bring experience to the lineup from the time she steps on campus. Thanya is a very steady player and will be someone that we can count on the be the rock in the middle of the line-up”
Fabrizio, a well-traveled international golfer, will make an immediate impact in the Aggie lineup that will be losing four seniors at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Currently ranked 300 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and member of the Italian National team. Recently Fabrizio competed against current Aggie golfers Patricia Garcia and Katarina Ruzickova in the World Amateur Golf Championship, placing seventh in the world with scores of 74-71-72-67 to finish at four-under par. Fabrizio’s efforts helped Italy to a team finish of 11th, only three shots out of tenth.
"I was truly impressed from the first time I visited campus, the university and its’ atmosphere were so fascinating,” Fabrizio said when asked why she Chose Texas A&M over Miami, Texas Tech and Arizona. “Everybody was so kind and supportive of the Aggies. I fell I will fit in perfectly with the team and coaches. The facilities at Texas A&M are top notch. I really feel I can accomplish my goals at Texas A&M, both as a student and developing my golf game."
Pattamakijsakul will join the Aggies after a successful summer circuit playing in four events in the United States. In that time Pattamakijsakul reached 94th in the POLO Golf Rankings with two finishes of 15th or better over that span. Thanya has had seven top-ten finishes in American Junior Golf Association tournaments, including at win at the AJGA Huntsville Junior with scores of 68-68-71 besting the field by eight strokes. Earlier this month Pattamakijsakul won the Singha Challenge Grand Final Amateur Tournament with scores of 73-70-71, winning by three strokes.
“A&M has really good facilities and a solid golf program,” Pattamakijsakul said when asked why she chose Texas A&M over Illinois, Oregon, Alabama and Duke. “The coaches were really welcoming and helpful and I feel comfortable with the team. Among all of the schools that recruited me, A&M stood out the most. The program seems to be getting better each year. The coaches have the program going in the right direction and I hope to contribute to the team's continued success."
McCombs’ recruiting class will join the team in the fall of 2013 to prepare for the 2014 season. The Aggies will continue play this season with the Mash Up Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida on Feb. 15.
