Texas A&M's Fitzgerald to Miss Remainder of 2013-14 Season

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men’s basketball head coach Billy Kennedy confirmed Thursday that freshman forward Davonte Fitzgerald will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

The Atlanta, Ga., native suffered a knee injury late in first half of Wednesday’s 83-73 win over LSU after scoring 11 points in just nine minutes of action.

Fitzgerald’s solid rookie campaign in Aggieland saw him play in 24 games, drawing four starts, and average 7.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest while compiling 17 blocked shots. During SEC play, Fitzgerald saw his scoring average rise to 8.6 points per contest while shooting 40.9 percent from the field with a 35.3 percent clip from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-7 forward was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 20 after averaging 16.5 points on nearly 60 percent shooting from the field and 3.5 rebounds against South Carolina and Mississippi State. During the contest against the Bulldogs, Fitzgerald notched a season-high 20 points.
