COLLEGE STATION – A member of Texas A&M’s Athletic Department will soon be a hall of famer.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced that it will induct Alan Cannon into its Hall of Fame in June. Cannon has worked for the Texas A&M Athletic Department since 1981 and has been the University’s Sports Information Director for 24 years.
As the Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, which is Cannon’s official title, “AC” runs the office that provides KBTX and countless other media outlets with all the stats, facts and figures about Aggie teams and athletes. He is responsible for all 20 men's and women's sports while focusing on football.
Cannon graduated from Texas A&M in 1984 where he was a walk-on baseball player. He was hired as an assistant SID in 1985 and served in that capacity until being named the Sports Information Director in 1989. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations ten years later.
Four other SIDs will be indicted with Cannon as part of the Class of 2014.
