Texas Tech's Kingsbury Refers To Texas A&M as 'Other University' In Press Conference Today

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Kliff Kingsbury's time at Houston and Texas A&M as offensive coordinator was purely business.

"It was hard leaving that 'other university' (Texas A&M}," Kingsbury told the crowd at the United Spirit Arena.

"I had built a great relationship with those players, but this, the outpouring that I've seen. This is where I've always meant to be and I can't tell ya how thankful that I am. One last request that I have of Kirby ('Texas Tech Athletic Director), I was wondering if there is anyway possible that we could get Cincinnati on the schedule next year?"

His homecoming to Texas Tech is personal.

The former Texas Tech quarterback was formally introduced as the head coach of the Red Raiders on Friday. He succeeds Tommy Tuberville, who unexpectedly left for Cincinnati.

The 33-year-old Kingsbury, the second-youngest coach in the Bowl Subdivision behind Toledo's Matt Campbell, has never been a head coach. He has a four-year deal that averages $2 million a year. Not bad for a guy who just five years ago was making less than $30,000 a year as a quality control assistant at Houston.
