AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas Longhorns last won the Big 12 in 2009. Since then, they have done a whole lot of losing.
After two straight losing seasons in league play, No. 12 Texas (3-0) begins its conference schedule at defending champion Oklahoma State (2-1) on Saturday.
Texas players and coaches say a win would be a big step toward showing the Longhorns are indeed on the road back to the top of the league.
Coach Mack Brown calls the Big 12 a season-long playoff. Every game is important because the 10-team league no longer has a conference championship game.
Brown cautioned his players not to be too excited about their 3-0 start. Texas started 3-0 each of the last two seasons and finished with losing records in the Big 12.
