An RBI single by catcher Megan Parten and a two-run double by center fielder Jordan Masek with two outs in the top of the seventh inning powered Texas State to a 3-0 victory over Sam Houston State at Bearkat Softball Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats earned a series sweep over the Kats and complete the regular season with a 35-15 regular and the Southland Conference softball regular season title with an 18-2 league mark.
Sam Houston had only one serious scoring threat as Erin Burford doubled in the top of the third inning and reached third on a sacrifice bunt. But the right fielder was thrown out on the plate attempting to score on a ground ball by designated player Kim Damian.
Anne Marie Taylor (15-8) allowed only three hits and struck out seven batters for Texas State. Meme Quinn (5-3) was the losing pitcher, giving up six hits and striking out three.
Texas State and Sam Houston will be the number one and two seeds, respectively, in the Southland Conference post-season tournament which begins Thursday in San Antonio.
The Bearkats will face the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 seed first round game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at Roadrunner Field on the campus at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
