Sam Houston State senior centerfielder Tori Benavidez is this week’s Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is the second hitter of the week award for Benavidez in three weeks.
Benavidez helped lead Sam Houston State to a 4-1 record on the week including a conference series win over Stephen F. Austin.
In a midweek doubleheader against Texas Southern, the senior from Midlothian went 7-for-9 from the plate when two home runs and seven RBI in the two games.
She continued to hot-hitting in the series against the Ladyjacks, collecting five hits, including a double and a home run, while knocking in six runs and scoring seven times.
On the week, Benavidez recorded a .667 batting average and a 1.222 slugging percentage with three home runs and 13 RBI while scoring nine runs.
For the year, the center fielder ranks fifth in the Southland Conference with a .430 season batting average.
Next up for Benavidez and the Bearkats is a three-game weekend Southland series with Houston Baptist. The pair will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and 1 p.m. single game Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
