COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The honors continue to roll in for Texas A&M’s Tyler Naquin, Ross Stripling and Michael Wacha as the trio of Aggies were recognized Wednesday by the American Baseball Coaches’ Association/Rawlings.
Naquin was selected as a second team All-American, while also joining Stripling on the ABCA All-Midwest Region first team. Wacha, meanwhile, represented Texas A&M on the All-Midwest Region second team.
Earlier this month, all three players were named All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, with Naquin and Stripling garnering second team honors and Wacha earning third team accolades.
Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger has also announced its annual All-America honors for the 2012 campaign, bestowing second team recognition on Stripling and Wacha, while naming Naquin a third-team performer.
Naquin finished his junior campaign in 2012 with a Big12-best .380 batting average to go along with team highs in runs (56), doubles (18) and triples (6). Additionally, the rifle-armed outfielder drove in 49 runs while stealing a career-best 21 bases.
Stripling was again one of the nation's most consistent and dominant starting pitchers, owning a 10-4 record with a team-best 120 strikeouts in 125.2 innings of work. Opponents hit a paltry .229 against the Southlake, Texas, native, who made national news when he tossed the 11th no-hitter in Texas A&M history on May 12 against San Diego State.
Wacha, who teamed with Stripling to give the Aggies one of the country’s best 1-2 combos on the mound, also enjoyed an outstanding campaign in 2012. The right-hander was the Aggies' series-opening starter all season, compiling a 9-1 record. Additionally, the Texarkana, Texas, product led the Aggie starting staff with a 2.06 ERA while recording 116 strikeouts in 113.1 innings of work.
All three players were high picks in this summer’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft with Naquin and Wacha being selected in the first round by the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively. Stripling, meanwhile, went in the fifth round to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
