COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Texas A&M equestrian signee Aubrey Videtich has been named the 2012 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) National Justin Rookie of the Year, the organization announced.
“Being named the Justin Rookie of the Year is such an amazing feeling,” Videtich said. “I am so blessed to have come from a smaller color breed, with a horse that I raised myself, to accomplish what we did our first year against the most talented group of horses and riders in the country. These accomplishments were far beyond the goals I had set at the beginning of the year, but with the help of Michelle Warda of McCarthy Warda Quarter Horses and Brian Craig of Brian Craig Quarter Horses, I was able to make steady improvements throughout the season. I am so grateful to have been able to achieve so much this year, and I am very excited to take all that I learned with me to the team. I have made so many wonderful friends and memories that I will carry with me forever.”
Videtich, who signed with the Aggies in November, won the prestigious award by earning more points than any other newcomer in her first year to compete on the AQHA circuit. After an outstanding year in the AQHA, Videtich ended 2012 ranked third in the nation in Limited Showmanship, third in Limited Equitation and sixth in Limited Horsemanship. She also ended the year among the top 20 in AQHA Youth Huntseat Equitation and Showmanship.
The Rockford, Mich., native also competed in the Michigan Quarter Horse Association this year, where she was named All-Around Youth 14-18 and All-Around Novice Youth 14-18, and was in the top 10 at the 2012 All-American Quarter Horse Congress.
Videtich will join the Aggies in the fall of 2013 for her freshman year. The No. 4 Texas A&M equestrian team returns to action on Feb. 2 at Oklahoma State. To learn more about the team, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
