BRYAN, TX -- The Bryan Viking baseball team won the outright 12-5A District Championship Friday night following a 4-1 win over Temple on parents' night at the Viking Athletic Complex.
Ty Culbreth struck out 8 on the night and picked up his 7th win of the season. As impressive as he was throwing the baseball, a back handed, behind the back stab on a "comebacker" in the top of the third inning brought the fans to their feet.
The game was scoreless in the 5th when Bryan took advantage of several Temple errors.
Tyler Jordan scored the first run of the game hustling all the way from second on the passed ball. After the ball skidded under the catcher's glove and back to the fence. The Temple catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher near the mound. With nobody covering home, Jordan made a dash to the plate and scored standing up for a 1-0 Bryan lead.
Two more Viking runs would cross the plate in the inning on a throwing error by the Wildcats' catcher.
Bryan would score 4 runs total in the 5th and go onto win it 4-1.
Not only is Bryan the 12-5A District Champions, but also grabbed the number 1 seed coming out of the district for the start of next week's playoffs.
