Weather Alters Saturday Baseball/Softball Starts

By  |

The start time for Saturday’s Sam Houston State softball doubleheader against McNeese State has been moved up to 11:00 a.m. in anticipation of rain later in the afternoon, while the SHSU baseball game will be played at 12:00 p.m.

SHSU baseball welcomes in Cal State Northridge for a three-game series that gets underway Friday. Saturday’s game was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. but will be moved up in hopes of taking advantage of better weather.

The softball series is the Southland opener for both teams. SHSU is 7-8 heading into league play, while McNeese has the top non-conference record in the Southland this season. Picked to finish first in the Southland coaches’ preseason poll, the Cowgirls are off to a 12-7 start than includes wins over No. 21 Alabama-Birmingham, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 9 Alabama.

Baseball is playing its final series before opening Southland play next weekend. The Kats played their way into the national rankings this week, debuting at No. 20 in Baseball America’s weekly poll.

CSUN comes to Don Sanders after dropping a pair of midweek contests to CSU Bakersfield and Loyola Marymount. CSU Northridge dropped Wednesday’s game against LMU 12-11 in 13 innings.

Sunday’s SHSU Baseball and Softball games are still scheduled for 1:00 p.m. starts.
