Williams Set to Compete at WEF Collegiate Equitation Challenge

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Hannah Williams will represent the Aggies at the fifth-annual FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) Collegiate Equitation Challenge Friday in Wellington, Fla.

With 12 riders from the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) and four from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), the 16-rider event will feature a head-to-head competition with a bracket style format.

Williams will compete in equitation over fences as one of four Southeastern Conference athletes and one of 12 NCEA athletes selected for the 16-rider competition.

Riders participating will compete over fences with heights up to 3’6” in a preliminary round, with the winners advancing to the final round on Friday night. Horses are provided by private individuals for the competition and are randomly drawn.

Williams is 5-2 this year in equitation over fences, and owns the Aggies’ top score of the season – an 88 against then-No. 1 Georgia. Last year Williams’ sister, Emily, represented the Aggies at the WEF event and finished in the consolation semifinals.

WEF is the world's largest and longest running equestrian competition. The 12-week event hosts more than 5000 horses from 50 states and 31 countries and is held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
