BRYAN, Texas -- KBTX Sports has confirmed that Sam Houston State head football coach Willie Fritz will be the new head coach at Georgia Southern. The school has announced a noon eastern time press conference on Friday to introduce their new coach. The press conference will be held in Bishop Field House at Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia.
Fritz has spent the last four seasons and the head coach at Sam Houston. He led the Bearkats to a 40-15 record during that time. Sam Houston advanced to the Football Championship Subdivision National Title game twice under the direction of Fritz.
He won the 2012 Liberty Mutual NCAA FCS national Coach of the Year and the American Football Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2011.
Fritz came to Huntsville from the University of Central Missouri. He was a graduate assistant for the Bearkats in 1984 and 1985. Fritz came back to Huntsville as the secondary and special teams coach for the Bearkats in 1991 and 1992.
