News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Mason Jarrell. The Madisonville High School senior has a 5.18 GPA, and is currently ranked third in his class.

Mason is a member of the Mustang football and baseball teams. In football, he was an Academic All-State selection; as well as a 2nd Team All-District selection as a linebacker. Mason is a 3 year letter winner; and a 2nd Team All-Academic selection in baseball. Academically, Mason is very involved in FFA, the Beta Club, and the National Honor Society. His other activities include being an exhibitor of the Madison County Fair and a Junior Board Member of Prosperity Bank.

“He is always prepared; even if he has a late night for baseball you wouldn’t know it in class," said Astronomy Teacher Denise Rothrock. "He does his work on time and does it very well. He's on of the most level headed kids I think we have in this school...Where he keeps everything in order and in line.”

“I've known Mason since he was in sixth grade and he's always been that kid that just strives to be the best," said Head Baseball Coach Justin Grimes. "He's gonna ask questions...What can he do to get better? What's wrong with his swing? He's always looking for answers how to get better; what can he do to get better. He's just one of those type of kids that, he's gonna always strive to be the best. I think his motivation and determination has made him that scholar athlete. And to receive this award is great for him.”

“So what really motivates me I guess would be my parents and the rest of my family. My older sister was a collegiate athlete and trying to follow her footsteps though high school...And you want to be better than your sister in a competitive rivalry, you know," Mason laughed. "And then just my parents...They want to see me do my best and I wan to see myself do the best that I can.”

After high school, Mason plans on attending Texas A&M University and major in Petroleum Engineering.

Congratulations to Mason Jarrell (JARE-ULL) Madisonville High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
