News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Sam Thomasson. The Brazos Christian School senior has a 4.36 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top ten percent of his class.
Sam is a member of the Brazos Christian football, basketball, baseball, and cross county teams. He was a second Team All-District selection for the State Finalist baseball team last spring. Sam was also an Honorable Mention point guard for last year's basketball team, and competed at the Cross Country State Championship last yea as well. Academically, Sam is a Merit Scholar, and has made the Headmaster's Honor Roll every quarter since his freshman year. He is always volunteering his time in Vacation Bible School, food pantries, mission trips, soup kitchens' and the Boy Scouts.
Calculus Teacher Jeremy Sutterfield said, “Sam's an energetic student; he's a lot of fun. He brings a lot of energy, and makes my job a lot more fun because of his energy. I teach him Calculus this year, and he enjoys the challenge. So he'll work hard until he understands the concepts because he likes to be pushed. And I think thats one of his greatest assets.”
Brazos Christian Head Coach Brandon Green said, “He works hard both on the court or on the field, but also in the classroom. He's a guy that takes care of the business that we give him and that the teachers give him. He does a great job. And I feel like he puts that same effort into the classroom that he does on the court or on the field. It does look different in the classroom, but its that same mindset. He's gonna do the best he can, he's gonna do it to the best of his ability because he knows he's representing a lot of things...when he turns in a paper, or when he goes on the court to play.”
Sam discussed the importance of being a leader on and off the court. “Sometimes I feel like I have to really watch what I do, or how I show my emotions to show a good example for the younger guys. That's really the only hard part. I usually just try to be myself and let them get to know me, and really be friends. I feel like thats how a leader on a team should be. I think that would be my parents definitely, they do a really good job of encouraging me to work hard in everything that I do. And being there for me when I need help; and helping me grow as a person.”
After high school, Sam plans on attending college and majoring in biochemistry.
Congratulations to Sam Thomasson of Brazos Christian School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
