News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Trent Martin. The Buffalo High School senior has a 3.87 GPA, and is currently ranked 4th in his class.

Trent is a member of the baseball, football, and basketball teams; and he also an track for two years at Buffalo. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, UIL math team, UIL number sense team, and participates in Theater Arts Performances. In his spare time, he is involved in his church and volunteers for Vacation Bible School.

"Trent is definitely a very hard worker, and he knows the value of being a dependable person. His parents definitely did very good raising him, I think. We had a show in December and he was one of the main characters. He was extremely, extremely sick and we didn't have anybody to be his backup, and still he came up here anyway and did the show. As soon as his scene was over, he went home. I'll probably never forget that about Trent, about he didn't want to let everyone else in the show down by not being able to do it."

"In the classroom, he's business first. He understands, and I preach to my guys, there's a reason the word student comes before athlete, and he embraces that. He understands, and he knows that that has to be taken care of first. Being a student comes first, cause without being a student, athletics doesn't even exist."

"As a kid, my parents always taught me that working hard would always pay off. Now that I'm a senior, I actually see how all the hard work that I've done did pay off. So working hard pays off in the end, and that's why I've always done it; because it's hard at the moment but in the end it's great. I believe that being a leader was something I was born with. Like Mrs. Henson said, I believe I'm a leader by example. I try to do the best I can so the kids younger than me can look up to me. I'm not very vocal sometimes. I wish I was, but I'm more of a leader by example."

After high school, Trent plans on attending Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in Construction Science. Congratulations to Trent Martin of Buffalo High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
