News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Sheila and Shelly Horak. Shelly is currently her senior class valedictorian, with a 4.45 GPA. Sheila is currently the salutatorian, and has a 4.44 GPA.
Both Sheila and Shelly are members of the Caldwell Hornet Golf team. They both are State Qualifiers and 4 year Lettermen in golf.
Academically, both girls have been on the "A" Honor Roll their entire high school careers. Sheila is a Senior Class Officer, and she's a member of the National Honor Society, BPA, and the Interact Service Club. Shelly is a member of the Student Council, NHS, and the Interact Club. Shelly is certified in CPR and in First Aid and is currently working on her EMT certification. Sheila won the CHS Achievement Award in Accounting last year. Both girls work at Mc Donald's and are very active in St Mary's Catholic Youth Ministry.
"Sheila is an extremely driven, motivated young lady. I enjoy working with Sheila. Sheila is on my UIL accounting team; Sheila's on my BPA Team. Sheila is a student that always gets her work before she goes. Not those ones that come back and "Oh, I need my work." She gets it ahead of time, and so she's very motivated and gets it done ahead of time too. So Sheila's not somebody you ever worry about."
"Shelly has internal motivation. She strives being at the top and doing her best. But she does so in a way that she doesn't push other people out the way to be a leader. She leads by example and she helps other students in the class. But she's going to be on top. She will be number one."
"Shelly and Sheila are two special girls. They come from a tremendous family with lots of love. If I had to say one aspect of both girls is work ethic. They have a tremendous work ethic because they are so competitive. They're probably their worst critics; and their probably the hardest on themselves. They strive for perfection. I don't have to tell them to do things. They know when their given something to do on the golf course. They coach themselves. They analyze their swings. They are so involved with trying to be the best they possibly can."
"Hi, I'm Sheila. And I'm Shelly. And we're from Caldwell High School."
"I think my motivation mostly comes from my parents. I see my dad who's a successful business man. And I see my mom who's encouraged through all the years that she home schooled me to always strive and do my best in school. And just following both of them, I realize just how much I want to go in to my education, and just really what I want out of it."
"I like to think that I lead by example. I'm a strong believer in you don't have to have a loud voice to have loud actions."
"Everyone has sibling rivalry with their brothers and sisters. It just so happens we're twins. So it's a little bit more competitive because we're the same age. And being in the same grade there's more going on that you can compete in. But at the end of the day it doesn't even matter. I mean we just love each other and it's our way of supporting each other."
After high school, Sheila and Shelly will be attending Texas A&M University. Sheila will major in Accounting at A&M's Mays Business School. And Shelly will study to become a Physicians Assistant.
Congratulations to Sheila and Shelly Horak of Caldwell High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
