News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Marianne Damian. The St. Joseph Catholic School senior has a 4.0 GPA and is currently ranked 7th in her class. Marianne is a member of the St. Joseph Basketball, Track, Cross Country and Softball teams. She has received 1st Team All District honors in basketball and softball, and was 2nd Team All Brazos Valley in Softball. Academically, Marianne is involved with Student Council, National Honor Society, and is also a student ambassador.
"Marianne is an incredibly well-balanced young lady. She doesn't sacrifice her academics in order to be a better athlete, and she doesn't sacrifice being an athlete in order to get better grades. She excels at both because she has determined that she wants to excel at both."
"Marianne's had the rare opportunity to be a captain on this team for three years. Her sophomore year there wasn't a lot of strong juniors or seniors on the team, so she had to step into a leadership role right away. Although she was very timid at first, over the last few years she's really grown into that leadership role and it's going to be very tough to replace her next year."
"It's definitely difficult trying to balance school and sports, but it's always worth it because I really enjoy playing sports so I do whatever I can. In school, I come before school or after school to get help from my teachers and I always make it work. I was really excited when I was nominated to be Classroom Champion because I always wanted to be on it. All my older friends were it and I was just really hoping that one day it would be my turn to be a Classroom Champion, so I'm really excited."
After high school, Marianne plans on attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and majoring in biology to go into the medical field.
Congratulations to Marianne Damian of St. Joseph Catholic School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
