News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Cody Garcia.
The Leon High School senior has a 4.0 GPA, and is currently the valedictorian of his class.
Cody was the starting center for the Cougar football team. Last season he was selected to the Academic All-District Team in football.
Academically, he's the Senior Class President, President of the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society, One Act Play, and UIL Speech and Poetry.
"Cody cares about what he does. Whether its in the classroom or working in public speaking with me. I know he cares what the end product looks like. And he wants to make sure no matter what he does...That his name is going on it...and he wants it to be the very best that it can possibly be.", Jerod Neff, Teacher
For the past three years Cody has won UIL District-First Place in Poetry Interpretation. Last year he claimed the state title in Poetry Interpretation. He also was the Best Actor and an All-Star Cast Member in the One Act Play. Cody is very active in his community and his church. He and his friend organizes a youth event at church once a month called MERGE.
"Honestly, I don't now how he does do it. He's got a lot on his plate! He excels in the classroom, he has to be extremely organized, he has to balance his time. Grades are very important to Cody. He's a great time manager, and as far as what he does out here; he's a student of the game. He knows every position on our offensive line. He's kind of our coach on the field as far as our offensive line goes. It's great to have a guy like that that can look at defense and help you make adjustments on the sideline when he comes off. He's a very well rounded athlete.", Keith Sitton, Cougars Head Football Coach
"Personally for me, I want to the best I can in everything I can. I understand that I may not be at the top all the time, but I know that if I provide my best in the classroom and on the field, it motivates me in itself seeing the results. People do tell me Im a good speaker, but personally I think if I go out there and show people I can do it too, it would be easier for them to follow. Because anyone can go out there and speak and put on this face and talk about things. But for me, showing it means more.", Cody Garcias
Cody has recently been accepted to Texas A&M University, and plans to major in Petroleum Engineering.
Congratulations to Cody Garcia of Leon High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
