CALDWELL, Texas The Bellville Brahmas beat the Caldwell Hornets 3-0 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
The two teams played a scoreless first half. Bellville scored the only points of the game on a 32-yard third quarter field. Caldwell had a chance to tie or win the game on the final drive of the night but could not put points on the board.
Even with the loss Caldwell head coach Bobby Jack Goforth has positive things to say after the game. "Minus the scoreboard I saw what I was hoping to see out of our kids and that is a years worth of work and progression and an improved defense and a fighting spirit and that is what I saw tonight. We were just a couple of plays away from wining this ball game and some mistakes that kept us out of the end zone."
Caldwell will return to action September 5 to host Hearne. Bellville will open the home portion of their schedule September 5 against Stafford.
