BRYAN, Texas -- Brazos Christian will have a chance to claim the first football state championship in school history when they face Dallas First Baptist Academy Saturday night in Corsicana.
The Eagles are a perfect 12-0 on the season, which is even a surprise to some of the players. "It's just been an amazing season with being undefeated and getting to this point. If you would have told me preseason or before we'd played a game that we'd be here at this point, still playing, I'd be very excited," said defensive end and right guard Cooper Owen.
First Baptist Academy is also undefeated at 13-0. The Saints feature a high powered offense that has scored 60 or more points in five games this season.
Win or lose at state, the Eagles are glad to have the opportunity to play for a championship. Tight end and defensive end Josiah Hamilton said, "We were really hoping we'd get to state but we weren't really sure if we'd be able to, and I don't think anyone else expected us to. But we worked really hard in the off-season and trained every single day and it's paid off."
Head coach Brandon Green added, "You see the guys and they work so hard in the off-season and sometimes that pays into wins and sometimes it doesn't but to see it happen, especially for these guys, is just awesome."
"These guys have worked harder than any other team I've been a part of and I hope that we can win this Saturday," said linebacker and wide receiver Kyle Steel.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Saturday in Corsicana.
