It had all the makings of a great late season game in 18-4A and it lived up to the hype.
With two games remaining in the regular season, Brenham entered the game on a seven game winning streak with a 6-0 district record. Huntsville was riding a 5 game winning streak and a 5-1 district record with a shot at the district leader.
Emotions running high on senior night from Brenham as senior Justin Davis walks on the field in full gear just two months after suffering a stroke. Davis receiving a standing ovation from the crowd as he watched his team take the field.
The Cubs special teams would put the first points on the board after Desmond Lockett recovered a botched snap on a Hornets punt and returned it for the score.
Then the Cubs would force Huntsville quarterback Malik Brown to fumble the ball and once again Lockett would recover the ball.
Cubs turn that into a field goal but their 10-0 lead wouldn't last long.
Huntsville scores back to back touchdowns. Brown running one in and then finding James Burns for the pitch and catch as the Hornets take a 14-10 lead in the second quarter.
Once again, the lead didn't last long. Brenham scores on the following drive when Tyler Watts rushes in from 12 yards out to take a 17-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Huntsville would find their momentum and Johnny Crew would score to put the Hornets back on top 21-17.
But the Brenham D comes up big in the 4th quarter forcing a fumble and recovering it in the end zone to put them up for good.
Cubs improve to 7-0 in district with a 31-21 win.
