SHENANDOAH -- The Bryan football team beat Oak Ridge 20-7 Friday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium in the district 14-5A opener for both teams.
The Viking scored the first touchdown of the game following an Oak Ridge turnover. A Bobby Johnson 13 yard touchdown run game Bryan a 7-0 lead. That was the score after one quarter.
Following another Oak Ridge turnover Johnson would score from 16 yards out to make it 14-0 Bryan. The War Eagles got on the scoreboard later in the second quarter on a Braden Latney eight yard touchdown run. Bryan would answer with a field goal to take 17-7 halftime lead.
The only score of the second half came in the fourth quarter on a Jose Falcon field goal. The win snaps a two game Viking losing streak and Bryan head coach Ross Rogers know this victory was big. "You never want to say it is a must game but for us for us to have new energy we needed this one real bad. Certainly I think our kids played a lot better. I wasn't pleased with the second half offensively but our defense played well all night long and I was really excited what they did this week and hopefully we can keep it up."
Bryan will return to Merrill Green Stadium October 5 to host the Conroe Tigers.
