With a population of 5,538, the entire town of Cameron might have shown up for the Yoeman's state semi-final game against Newton.
The home side of Woodforest Bank Stadium in the Woodlands was covered in Cameron Yoe maroon but it was a roller coaster first half for fans at the game.
The Newton Eagles would jump out to a 8 - 0 lead but Yoe would answer back.
Yoeman quarterback Jason Kopriva would find Aaron Sims and the sophomore turns on the jets going 79 yards for the score. The 2-point conversion is good and the game was tied.
Newton would then go on a 14-0 run that included a blocked punt returned for the score but once again, Yoe answered back.
First Kopriva would find Colton Shelton for a 40 yard touchdown pass. Then Kopriva would take it in himself from 4 yards out on 4th down with 2:03 left in the half. Once again the 2-point try was good and once again, the game was tied.
The Yoeman would get the ball back with one last chance to score before the half and thanks to the leg of Michael Evan's they would. The junior hits a 45-yard field goal as time expires in the half and Cameron would lead 25-22 at the break.
In the second half, Cameron Yoe's defense was impenetrable. The Eagles were held scoreless and the Yoemen score 14 points in the 4th quarter to cap a 31-0 run. Cameron Yoe is heading to the Class 2A Division I State Championship game as they defeat Newton 39-22.
Cameron Yoe will match up against a familiar foe at the state title game against Daingerfield. The two teams faced each other in 2010 for the title, a game Daingerfield won.
