COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The A&M Consolidated Tigers will once again have a lot of holes to fill due to graduation, but they expect to be back in contention for a district title and another trip to the playoffs this season.

Senior Gus Miller won the starting quarterback job in the spring. He will replace last year’s duo of Jaylan Cheshire and Weston Garner. Miller will have a pair of very good receivers to throw to in Kerry Thomas and Derrick Dick and a solid run-ning back in Brandon Jackson.

However, the big question mark is the offensive line where no starters return. Four starters are back on defense, led by the big man up front defensive tackle D.J. Jackson.

The schedule looks brutal on paper again this season, starting with a non-district slate against four teams that com-bined for 39 wins a year ago. Lufkin and The Woodlands look to be A&M Consoli-dated’s main competition for the district title, while cross-town rival Bryan, Conroe, and Oak Ridge are all trying to get back to the playoffs.

If the Tigers take their lumps early, expect them to learn from it and be in the thick of the 14-5A race come district play and challenging for a ninth consecutive trip to the playoffs.
