ANDERSON, Texas -- The Owls have a chance to be much better this season, and could contend for a playoff spot.
Nine starters return on offense and seven are coming back on defense, numbers that add up to a more experienced team now used to playing under the Friday Night Lights. John McDonald returns at quarterback, and he should be hungry after breaking his leg in the first game of the season and missing the rest of the year. He will have three starters back on the line, plus sophomore tailback Daylan Williams and a trio of receivers, led by Derreck Sicola who filled in at quarterback last season.
Defensively, all four starters are back on the line, including Dylan Bohnert after a solid freshman season. Kevin Woods led the team in tackles and is back at linebacker. Nick Borski is the only returnee in what will be a young secondary.
The Owls, still without a home field, will play six “home” games this season at Allen Academy, but thanks to passing a bond, will have their own stadium ready for the 2014 season.
