BRYAN, Texas -- The Rangers look to continue to show improvement and contend for a playoff spot in 2013.
Eight starters are back on offense and seven return on defense, the ingredients for the Rangers to take a big step forward. Brady Batten has the inside track to take over at quarterback, but whomever takes snaps will have three returning starters blocking for him on the line in Kelvin Taylor, William Hussey, and Peter Ealarms-Koontz. A trio of wide receivers also return, led by Isaiah Johnson who medaled in the 110-meter hurdles at the state meet as a junior.
Defensively, the strength may be on the line. Spencer Choka, back after an outstanding sophomore season, joins Damond Burleson and Auston Ellis to anchor the defensive line. Mark Davenport and Robert Lee come back in the secondary, but holes will have to be filled at linebacker.
The schedule is tough again, but the Rangers do get to play 18-4A favorites Huntsville, Magnolia West, Brenham, and Montgomery at home. If the Rangers can pull off some upsets at home and pick up a few road victories, it could all add up to their first trip to the playoffs in 2013.
