NAVASOTA, Texas -- Navasota loses a ton of talented seniors that helped the program reach new heights in 2012 in the form of the Class 3A Division II State Championship, but the cupboard is far from bare. The Rattler defense returns six starters, led by first-team all-state defensive tackle Jordan Wells.
There is a three-way battle to replace all-state quarterback Kadarius Baker between juniors Keyshawn Philio and Davon Jernigan and sophomore Shelton Eppler.
The offensive line was a question mark going into the season a year ago, but will be the strength of the offense, at least in the early going, in 2013 with Michael Coffey and Bo Meece back. Michael Martinez is a weapon on special teams and earned second-team all-state honors as a sophomore a year ago.
The early season schedule is a tough one with matchups against 4A Willis, 3A powerhouse Coldspring, and 2A power Lexington. The Rattlers two toughest district games look to be at Rockdale and at Taylor, but Navasota is still the favorite to claim another district crown and make another deep run in the postseason.
