CYPRESS, Texas -- Brenham scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to push past fourth ranked Texas City 37-34 Friday night at the Berry Center.
Texas City scored the last 14 points, but it was not enough to rally past the Cubs.
The Cubs advance to the 4A Division II state quarterfinals against either Elgin or George Ranch.
Brenham could only turn a pair of first quarter Texas City turnovers into seven points. Desmond Lockett came up with an interception, but the Cubs missed a field goal. Later Taylon Shepard came up with a fumble recovery that Brenham did cash in on, as Earnest Patterson went in from two-yards out two plays later to give the Cubs a 7-0 lead.
Texas City answered early in the second quarter on an Andrew Allen one-yard quarterback keeper on fourth and goal.
The Cubs drove deep into Texas City territory but Zack Powell picked off Caleb Hill's pass and went 77-yards the other way to give the Stings a 14-7 lead.
