BRYAN, TX -- The A&M Consolidated Tigers (2-1) scored 21 unanswered 4th quarter points last week and posted a 35-17 win over Westlake, they'll try to build on that momentum Friday night as they travel over to Austin and square off against five time 4A State Champion Lake Travis.
The Cavaliers (3-0) are making the jump to 5A this year and are currently unbeaten and ranked number 1 in the state according to this week's Associated Press High School Football Poll.
Some might see it as a tall order, A&M Consolidated Head Coach David Raffield and his Tigers feel it's a tremendous opportunity.
"It just kinda represents what high school football is all about," said Raffield on Wednesday.
"You get to go to their place. They'll have a huge crowd. They've had amazing success over the last 5 years. It's an opportunity for our kids to showcase their skills against them. I'm anticipating a great game."
The Tigers are led by senior quarterback Jaylon Cheshire, who has thrown for 756 yards so far this season.
Xavier Jones leads A&M Consolidated's ground attack with 308 yards on 40 carries.
Jones picked up almost 1/3 of his yardage late in last Friday's game against Westlake as he wrapped up the scoring for the Tigers with a 94 yard touchdown run.
The Tiger offense leads all of District 14-5A - averaging over 400 yards per game.
This is the final non-district game for the Tigers before opening "championship play" September 28th against Lufkin at Tigerland Stadium.
KBTX Media will have highlights of the game during Taco Bell's Friday Football Fever which kicks off all season long on Fridays during the high school football regular season at 11:35pm on KBTX.
Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Lake Travis ISD Stadium in Austin.
