BRYAN, Texas -- Championship play begins for District 14-5A Friday night as the Bryan Vikings host Oak Ridge at Merrill Green Stadium and the A&M Consolidated Tigers head to Lufkin to battle the Panthers.
The Vikings are coming off a 42-17 loss to Pflugerville Hendrickson last week on the road, while A&M Consolidated' district tune-up against Lake Travis was rained out.
The Tigers will be looking to avenge a 71-68 four overtime loss at home last year to the Panthers. It was a game that many Tiger fans would like to forget, but can't.
"I know the coaching staff hasn't forgotten that game and a few of our kids were a part of it," said Tiger head coach David Raffield. "It was unbelievable emotions in that game. It was exciting to be a part of, but it was a disappointing loss," concluded Raffield.
The Tigers and Panthers will kick things off at 7:30 at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin.
The Vikings (2-2) will be looking to hand the War Eagles (4-0) its first loss of the season in the district opener for both teams.
"Every coach talks about the seasons," said Bryan Head Coach Ross Rogers. "You have your preseason and then you have district and then hopefully the playoffs so everybody in our district anyway the quest starts right now so everything has to be as good as you can make it," concluded Rogers.
Kickoff at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan is set for 7:30pm.
