Bryan Softball Finishes Fifth in BCS Tournament

BRYAN, Texas -- The Bryan Viking softball team brought in some stiff competition for the BCS Tournament this year, and remained in the top ten teams through the end of the weekend.

In the third round of play, Bryan defeated Arlington Martin 5-4 in eight innings. Nikki Smith and Rebecca Peirce pitched for the Vikes, and Peirce recorded the win. Leading hitters for the Vikings include:

Courtney Meier: 3 for 4, scoring two runs
Taylor Curtis: 3 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs, scoring one run
Madison Goolsby: 2 for 4 with an RBI, scoring one run
Desiray Sauseda: 2 for 4 with a HR, triple, and an RBI

All five runs were scored by these four players.

In the Quarter Finals, Magnolia West forced Bryan to make some errors resulting in a 3-1 win in favor of Magnolia West.

Rebecca Peirce, Nikki Smith and Rachel Ullmann were in the circle for the Vikings; and Ullmann recorded the loss.

Courtney Meier went 1 for 2 with a walk, and scoring the lone run of the game off an RBI by Taylor Curtis.

The Lady Vikes went on to play Huntington in the 5th Place consolation game, where Huntington got the win 4-2.
