ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Cameron Yoemen beat Wall 35-14 Thursday night in the Class 2A Division 1 State Championship game at AT&T Stadium. It is the second straight year Cameron has won a state title.
Wall started the scoring in the first quarter on a Brent Matschek 54 yard touchdown run. Cameron evened the game on a Traion Smith one yard touchdown run. The game was tied at seven after one quarter.
Smith gave Cameron the lead in the second quarter on a two yard touchdown run. The Yoemen would hold that lead for most of the quarter but Wall scored with 11 second left in the first half on a 10 yard Kris Gutierrez touchdown run. The two teams would go to the locker room tied at 14 at halftime.
The score would stay that way until the fourth quarter. Jason Kopriva's six yard touchdown pass to Aaron Sims gave the Yoemen a 21-14 lead. Smith would add touchdown runs of 11 and two yards to help put the game away. Smith was named the Offensive MVP of the game with 22 carries for 157 yards and four touchdowns. Tralund Webbe was named the Defensive MVP.
Cameron finishes the season with a record of 15-1. The Hawks end their season 15-1.
