LUFKIN, Tx - On Saturday, the College Station Cougars qualified for the Texas State 7-on-7 Division I Tournament which will played July 11th-12th at Veterans Park.
The Cougars played in the Lufkin State Qualifying Tournament, their first time competing in a Division I SQT. They beat Longview Pinetree 47-0 and Kingwood Park 41-32 to advance to the qualifying round where they defeated the Lufkin Panthers 36-35 to earn a berth at state.
Against Lufkin, Jeremiah Booker caught the game clinching TD from Cole Whittlesey, who was just named MVP at the Baseball State Championship on Thursday. Sophomore to be Ty Brock combined with Whittlesey for a big day throwing to receivers Booker, Drake Carnes and Charlie Glover. Defensive standouts were Rajah Preciado, Desmond Payton, and Glover.
The Cougars will play in the Tyler SQT next Saturday to continue preparing for the state tournament.
